![]() This page contains Frequently Asked Questions about various stuff to do with fruit machines and is aimed mostly at beginners. Below is a summary of Fruit Machine Manufacturer's:
This information is a breakdown of our and other players' views on certain makes of machines.
JPM: More often played by the practised player because they require alot of skill and a genuine playing method which must be recognised. JPM'S CANNOT BE FORCED SO DO NOT ATTEMPT IT.
Barcrest: Nowadays, these can be played by anyone because of the fact that they require less skill and everyone knows how to streak them. Well established for producing quality ideas.
Empire: These use old Barcrest machine cabinets and play similar in the fact that they will go when backing. Will not go for a large amount.
Mazooma: One of the less favoured fruit machine producers. Unpredictable and not a very good source of profit. Their worst machine yet is easily Pac Man.
Maygay: Poor recent machines. Have produced decent machines back in the day including, It's A Knockout, Donkey Kong and Simpsons.
Red Gaming: A new company in which you can see their products by viewing their web site through the links page. As yet, not played their machines.
The following are terms used by common players:
'UKP', this abbrieviation simply means UK pounds as in some cases the pound sign does not work on a certain program.
'Sharking', have you ever been playing a machine with someone watching your every move? These people who are looking at everything you are doing and are ready to jump on the machine if you have filled it are known as sharks. Everwhere with machines usually have one who are like residents. Any trouble from them, do not hesitate to cane them as they piss everyone off.
'Percentages', the pay out percentage indicated by the machine is usually 70-80%. This does not necessarily mean that the machine will pay this but has to be displyed by law.
'Reset Codes', used mainly on old Maygay's. Operators use these with an appliance to read required data. These are of no interest to anyone else.
'True Skill and Psuedo Skill', True skill is a good indication of the machine playing well and in most cases slowed down by the cancel button. Psuedo Skill is where the machine has decided what the outcome will be anyway.
'Barcodes', these require a button sequence for different features. Originally the 3 Bar, 2 Bar, then single Bar.
'Invincible Modes (IM)', everyone knows what these are. They are indicated by flashing/red logos, sound affects and on newer machines Surviving 4 ? marks, and they allow you to keep going all the way round the board to obtain the J A C K P O T!.
'Backing', basically, this is when the machine is full which is indicated by coins falling down the back of the machine. If you are in a noisy pub/arcade and cannot hear the coins dropping down the back then you can rest your foot on the front of the machine cabinet to determine this.
'Refills', most common in Bookies, a situation where the machine which has just payed out a large amount can be refilled so that it appears full and is then played. So do not go caning pound coins into a machine which is full, but is playing crap. A good sense of judgement in playing a machine appears is vital.
'Streaks', these are usually determined by how happy the machine is and the playing method used on a certain machine. Most cases a streak is triggered by a Jackpot (JP), Barcode or certain Feature. The streak will vary from machine to machine. A common Barcrest streak is approximately 45-75 pounds on 15JP set machines.
'Forcing', to force a machine you need confidence, knowledge and substancial funds. This is basically playing in a way to make the machine 'happy' and to go on to streak. In forcing a machine in usually you must turn down Invincible Modes by collecting a low win, this will make the machine play alot happier in most cases.
'Keying', the use of a refill-key will show hopper balances on certain machine, where the Barcrest maximum is 125.
'Stop and Step (S'N'S)', this is a skill feature and in most cases requires alot of practise. Somtimes the middle reel will 'bounce', move an extra place depending on the machine.
'Re-Chip', a re-chip occurs when a machine has a fault so that it may be emptied or seems to payout too much. An example of alot of re-chips is where the S&S feature is speeded up on machines such as Cashbuster P3, Caesar's Palace etc. 'P' is the program number of the machine.
'Emptiers (mtr's)', these are methods used by more professional players and can require alot of skill and patience. When a machine has been 'done' using an emptier players will leave about 10 pounds or so left in so that no suspision arises when the machine does not pay anything out. An Emptier has a variable price depending on how recent it is and when a re-chip for that machine is due. Emptiers can be in the form of free wins which the machine does not register therefore, not affecting the %, free credits allowing you to force the machine into emptying itself, codes such as data dumps and then simple methods of getting JP's or certain features everytime.
'Clicking', this is an old, illegal method of sparking free credits on machines. It was commonly used on old Maygay machines where nowadays machines are alarmed against it.
Common questions:
How do I become a pro player?
To become a pro/full time player you must achieve a sense of discipline so that you know when to play a machine and when to walk away. Your skill and knowledge must be above par and reliable contacts prove very helpful so you know what is happening within the industry. Strong playing methods and occasional emptiers will be your main source of profit. You must be aware of machine locations in your area so that you can plan a playing route which you can do every week so that the machines will be then filled up by regulars so it'll be time for you to cane them again.
